7/8/2023 0 Comments Don't Rush Me by Jackie MayIt typically takes me about 10 minutes to fill ’er up. Like the Little Tikes bounce house, the Bountech structure takes just a couple of minutes to inflate. Then I fill the shallow pool with a few inches of water using my (Wirecutter pick) Dramm hose. There’s a climbing wall that leads to a slide that leads to a shallow pool of water festooned with inflated water guns and a basketball hoop. The Bountech inflatable-which appears under a few different brand names on Amazon-looks like a cheesy monstrosity. This inflatable, too, has been a godsend. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” I said to my wife when we received the gift of a second giant inflatable. Not to be outdone, my brother (who seems to believe that love is best measured based on the physical size and outrageousness of gifts given) bought my kids this Bountech inflatable climbing wall and waterslide contraption. The Little Tikes inflatable house let them gigglingly bounce themselves to the brink of exhaustion. In the early days of the pandemic, my kids, then 4 and 2, were cooped up at home with no school, playgrounds, or friends for nearly three months. The bounce house has proven to be a godsend. “This looks like a gigantic pain,” I thought. My wife and I reacted with a mix of incredulity and mild annoyance. My sister-in-law bought my kids our first bounce house-the Little Tikes Jump ’n Slide Bouncer-for Christmas in 2019.

Living in a tent even through brutal winters, he had survived by his wits and courage, developing ingenious ways to store edibles and water, and to avoid freezing to death. He would not have a conversation with another human being until nearly three decades later, when he was arrested for stealing food. A New York Times bestseller In 1986, a shy and intelligent twenty-year-old named Christopher Knight left his home in Massachusetts, drove to Maine, and disappeared into the forest. This is the remarkable true story of a man who lived alone in the woods of Maine for 27 years, making this dream a reality-not out of anger at the world, but simply because he preferred to live on his own. Many people dream of escaping modern life, but most will never act on it. It’s a brief story, but there’s more than enough intrigues packed into the narrative, especially the world-building. The year is 1912, and we follow Special Investigator Fatma el-Sha’arawi as she tries to solve a murder mystery. How cool is that? A Dead Djinn in Cairo takes place in, well, an alternate Cairo. Some said even now he traveled the many worlds, sowing chaos wherever he went.” He later disappeared, taking his incredible machines with him. I do believe that the purpose of this novelette is to attain reader’s interest in the character, premise, and definitely world-building, and on these matters, Clark has earned my interest. Now, there’s a lot of limitation put into this novelette, and its short length doesn’t allow many rooms for exploration. Because of that, I decided to give A Dead Djinn in Cairo a try first. Djèlí Clark is highly praised and quite popular right now, but I felt a bit apprehensive plenty of hyped debut novel in bookish social media has disappointed me. A Dead Djinn in Cairo was so interesting seems like I have to give A Master of Djinn a try after all.Ī Master of Djinn by P. 7/6/2023 0 Comments Vigil by Angela SlatterYears earlier her father had been discovered carving local children as delicacies for those who had not grown out of the taste of flesh.
